Suraiya Akter is a Research Officer at the Center for Participatory Research and Development (CPRD), Bangladesh, working at the intersection of climate change and disaster risk reduction through geospatial analysis, field investigations, and policy analysis.

She holds a Bachelor of Disaster Management (BDM) and Master of Disaster Management (MDM) from the University of Dhaka and received the Government Honours Scholarship. Her experience includes an internship at the Bangladesh Disaster Preparedness Centre (BDPC) and work with the Centre for Disability in Development (CDD), including community-based disaster risk management across climate-vulnerable regions of Bangladesh. Her Master’s thesis examined the public health implications of medical waste management, resulting in a peer-reviewed manuscript under review.

Her research integrates qualitative and quantitative methods, KIIs, FGDs, and geospatial approaches, including GIS, hazard and risk mapping, climate-health risks, vulnerability assessment, and spatial analysis. She uses ArcGIS Pro, KoBoToolbox, SPSS, and R. Her interests include geography, GIS and geospatial analysis, environmental and climate-health patterns, DRR, and urban resilience.
